Norton T. Dodge about Vachagan Norazyan

Each of Narazyan’s paintings is a small gem with a larger than life presence. They are in the style of fantastic realism or neo-surrealism and combine the real with the surreal in some earlier, undefined historic period. Narazyan employs a dedicate, sensitive painting technique as well as a marvelous palette of rich but subdued colors. The figurative elements in his works can be explicit and recognizable as well as vague and quite unusual. All this gives his work a quality of mystery which, like Mona Lisa’s smile, captures the viewer’s attention and imagination.
